Overview

COBL pseudogene 1 (COBLP1) is a processed human pseudogene located on the X chromosome (chrX:118938153-118939134, hg38). It does not encode a functional protein. It is related by sequence and evolutionary origin to the cordon-bleu WH2 repeat protein gene (COBL), which encodes a cytoskeletal actin regulator. Unlike its parent gene COBL, COBLP1 lacks protein-coding ability due to disabling mutations and features. Pseudogenes like COBLP1 generally arise from retrotransposition or duplication events followed by loss of function, and while some pseudogenes exert RNA-level regulatory effects, there is no established biological role, disease association, or clinical application for COBLP1 documented in the literature.
