Coiled-coil alpha-helical rod protein 1 (CCHCR1) is a structural protein composed primarily of alpha-helices and coiled-coil domains, encoded by the CCHCR1 gene on human chromosome 6p21.33. CCHCR1 localizes to P-bodies—sites of mRNA metabolism—and is implicated in regulating keratinocyte proliferation and differentiation, potentially functioning as a negative regulator of keratinocyte growth, with relevance in both normal epithelial biology and skin disease. CCHCR1 has notable genetic polymorphisms associated with susceptibility to psoriasis and expression changes in multiple sclerosis and cancers such as cervical carcinoma, sometimes interacting with viral proteins like HPV E2. Although its function is incompletely characterized, it is recognized as a potential marker for proliferative disorders, especially in the skin, but is not considered a classical drug target or receptor.
