Overview

Coiled-coil domain-containing protein 102A (CCDC102A) is a centrosomal protein critical for the regulation of centrosome duplication and cohesion in animal cells[1][2]. It forms a barrel-like structure in the proximal region of centrioles, where it restricts interactions between key centrosomal proteins Cep192 and Cep152 to prevent centrosome overduplication. CCDC102A is also involved in maintaining the connection between paired centrioles (centrosome cohesion) by recruiting and binding C-Nap1, and is removed from the centrosome by Nek2A-mediated phosphorylation at the onset of mitosis. Loss or dysregulation of CCDC102A function can result in abnormal spindle assembly, chromosomal instability, and has been implicated in developmental disorders and tumorigenesis. The gene is protein-coding and is associated with human diseases including Immunodeficiency 32A and Hypotrichosis 12[7]. There is currently no evidence that CCDC102A serves as a direct therapeutic drug target or that drugs interact with this protein[2][7].
