Overview

Coiled-coil domain containing protein 11 (CCDC11) is a cytoplasmic structural protein characterized by the presence of a coiled-coil domain, a motif broadly involved in protein-protein interactions, scaffolding, and cellular organization[1][2][7]. CCDC11 is required for proper ciliogenesis (the formation and maintenance of cilia) and plays a role in left-right axis specification during embryonic development. Variations in CCDC11 have been associated with congenital laterality disorders in humans. However, it is not currently considered a therapeutic target, and its direct involvement in major disease categories (such as cancer or cardiovascular disease) is not established. CCDC proteins, as a family, are diverse and can mediate various structural or regulatory cell functions, but individual members—including CCDC11—typically have specialized and less well-characterized functions compared to classical drug targets[2][7].
