Overview

Coiled-coil domain-containing protein 110 (CCDC110) is a protein characterized by a C-terminal coiled-coil domain, a bipartite nuclear localization signal, and a leucine zipper motif that enables protein-protein interactions[1][3][6]. CCDC110 was initially discovered as a human cancer/testis antigen, being highly expressed in testicular germ cells and upregulated in multiple cancer types, including hepatocellular carcinoma, tongue, stomach, and melanoma[1][3][6][13]. Functionally, CCDC110 contributes to cell cycle regulation—specifically delaying entry into the G2/M phase—and has been implicated in supporting oncogenic processes such as cell proliferation, migration, and invasion via stabilization of TGFBR1 and activation of the TGF-β/SMAD pathway[1][3][5]. Due to its cancer-specific expression pattern and immune recognition in some tumors, CCDC110 is considered a potential diagnostic biomarker and therapeutic target in cancer immunotherapy, though its precise physiological roles outside cancer remain incompletely characterized[1][3][5][6].
