Coiled-coil domain-containing protein 120 (CCDC120)

Coiled-coil domain-containing protein 120 is a protein encoded by the CCDC120 gene, which includes two short coiled-coil domains at the N-terminus and a long proline-rich domain at the C-terminus[2]. CCDC120 localizes to the subdistal appendages of mother centrioles and proximal ends of both centrioles during the cell cycle, and is crucial for anchoring microtubules in interphase cells[2]. It cooperates with other subdistal appendage components such as ODF2, Ninein, and CEP170 to mediate the hierarchical assembly of these structures and recruits Ninein and CEP170 to the centrosome[2]. In addition, CCDC120 is required for neurite growth by interacting with cytohesin-2 to facilitate vesicular transport and ARF6 activation in neuronal cells[2][1]. Several alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding multiple isoforms of CCDC120 have been identified[1].
