Overview

Coiled-coil domain-containing protein 125 (CCDC125), also known as KENAE, is a protein encoded by the CCDC125 gene in humans. The protein is primarily characterized by its coiled-coil domain structure and is broadly conserved among vertebrates. Expression studies show it is highly present in immune-associated tissues such as the thymus, spleen, and bone marrow. Functionally, CCDC125 has been implicated in the regulation of cell migration and motility, acting in part by negatively regulating RhoGTPase signaling pathways (e.g., RhoA, Rac1, and Cdc42). Experimental evidence from cell lines indicates that CCDC125 modulates cytoskeletal dynamics and may influence cell responses to external stimuli through effects on signaling cascades governing movement. There are indications that autoantibodies against CCDC125 may be involved in the pathogenesis of certain neurological syndromes such as Isaac’s syndrome, although it is not a classical therapeutic target, receptor, enzyme, or transporter. Currently, no drugs, established mechanisms of action, biomarkers, or safety concerns are documented for this protein in the medical literature.
