Coiled-coil domain-containing protein 13 (CCDC13) is a centriolar satellite protein involved in maintaining genome stability and promoting the formation and function of primary and motile cilia in eukaryotic cells[2][3]. CCDC13 interacts with other centriolar satellite components, such as PCM1, Cep290, and pericentrin, preventing DNA damage during cell division and is essential for proper microtubule organization and the formation of the ciliary central microtubules (CP MTs)[2][4]. In mammalian and Drosophila models, CCDC13 is necessary for the assembly of these central microtubules, affecting motile cilia function, sperm motility, and male fertility; its deficiency causes ciliary defects, impaired sperm function, and hydrocephalus in mice[4]. CCDC13 does not currently have known direct pharmacological modulators or established roles as a drug target, but it plays a critical structural and regulatory role in cellular cilia biology.
