Overview

Coiled-coil domain-containing protein 163 (CCDC163) is a transmembrane protein predicted to be embedded in cell membranes. The CCDC163 gene (HGNC: 27003, NCBI Gene: 126661, Ensembl: ENSG00000280670) is protein-coding and localizes on chromosome 1. Although predicted to encode a coiled-coil domain-containing transmembrane protein, there is currently no direct experimental evidence for its detailed biological function, interaction partners, or disease relevance beyond gene–disease associations detected in large-scale genetic studies. At present, CCDC163 is not considered a therapeutic target and has not been functionally characterized in terms of cellular signaling, receptor activity, or as a druggable protein. Information linking this protein to cobalamin trafficking is speculative and not established in the biomedical literature. Some aliases refer to resolved pseudogenes, reinforcing the uncertainty about its functional relevance. There appears to be no direct evidence that "CCDC163" is a receptor, enzyme, or otherwise validated drug target. The closely related protein "CCDC3" *is* a functionally characterized secreted protein involved in metabolism, cancer, and inflammation, but this is distinct from CCDC163, which remains uncharacterized functionally and therapeutically.
