Coiled-coil domain-containing protein 169 (CCDC169)

Coiled-coil domain-containing protein 169 (CCDC169) is a protein of 139 amino acids encoded by the CCDC169 gene (also known as C13orf38, LOC728591, and RP11-251J8.1), located on chromosome 13[3][5]. The protein contains a coiled-coil domain—a structural motif that often mediates protein-protein interactions—and includes the domain of unknown function DUF4600[1][7]. Although its precise biological role is not characterized, CCDC169 is predominantly expressed in human testis and is also found at lower levels in bone marrow, brain, and vascular tissues[1]. It shows increased expression in several tumor types, such as brain, lung, and germ cell tumors, and in some leukemia cells[1][10]. Experimental data indicate tissue-specific expression, but it does not behave as a housekeeping gene[1]. There is evidence for retention in the nucleus. The gene’s overexpression in certain cancers, including some with chromosomal aneuploidy, suggests potential involvement in cancer-related processes[2]. However, no established therapeutic targeting, validated molecular interactors, or known functions have been described. Multiple polyclonal antibodies are available for detection, and its isoform b is the most common protein product[1][5]. There are no known drugs or directly targeting agents, and recognized safety concerns or mechanism-of-action studies are absent.
