Overview

Coiled-coil domain-containing protein 17 (CCDC17) is a human protein encoded by the CCDC17 gene (NCBI Gene ID: 149483; UniProtKB: Q96LX7) characterized by multiple coiled-coil domains[5]. Immunostaining studies demonstrate that CCDC17 localizes to both the tip and basal body regions of cilia, suggesting a putative role in ciliary structure or function; however, its precise biological function is not well-defined[2]. Recent epigenetic analyses have revealed hypermethylation of CCDC17 in keratoacanthoma samples, implicating altered gene regulation in this self-limiting epidermal tumor, and there is some connection to colorectal adenocarcinoma, though mechanistic details remain unclear[4]. Overall, CCDC17 is not currently recognized as a therapeutic target, nor are there known drugs, biomarkers, or safety risks associated with its modulation. It is primarily classified as a structural protein with possible involvement in organelle architecture, typical of coiled-coil domain proteins[1][2][3][4][5].
