Overview
Coiled-coil domain-containing protein 201 (CCDC201) is a recently annotated human protein expressed predominantly in ovarian tissue and oocytes, with the highest levels in women of reproductive age and minimal expression after menopause. The gene is conserved across mammals and encodes a protein of 187 amino acids containing characteristic coiled-coil domains. Loss-of-function variants, particularly the stop-gain variant p.(Arg162Ter), are associated with a dramatically increased risk of primary ovarian insufficiency and significantly earlier menopause, supporting a key role in female reproductive function. CCDC201 has not been established as a therapeutic target, nor are there any known drug interactions or biomarker applications at present[1][3][4][5][7].
