Overview

Coiled-coil domain-containing protein 60 (CCDC60) is a mitochondrial protein comprising 550 amino acids, predicted molecular weight about 63 kDa, and is encoded by the CCDC60 gene on chromosome 12q24.23[1]. The protein features a coiled-coil domain, which generally mediates protein-protein interactions. CCDC60 is most highly expressed in the trachea, salivary glands, bladder, cervix, and epididymis, and is also present in other epithelial tissues[1]. Experimental evidence suggests multiple physical interactions with other proteins involved in RNA processing, cell cycle regulation, and signaling, but the biological functions of CCDC60 remain largely undefined. Genetic studies have associated CCDC60 with susceptibility to schizophrenia and it has been implicated as a candidate biomarker in several cancers, suggesting a possible disease-associated role, but there is no current evidence supporting it as a direct therapeutic target or established receptor, enzyme, or transporter[1][2][4].
