Overview
Coiled-coil domain containing protein 88A (CCDC88A), also known as Girdin, is a multifunctional actin-binding scaffolding protein activated by Akt kinase that enhances cytoskeletal remodeling, cell migration, and integrates signals from diverse receptors (including growth factor receptor tyrosine kinases and G protein-coupled receptors). CCDC88A mediates PI3K-dependent Akt activation, interacts with G proteins, and modulates key cellular processes such as proliferation, motility, DNA damage response, angiogenesis, and neurodevelopment. Its expression correlates with poor prognosis in several cancers and has complex roles in cell cycle regulation and therapeutic sensitivity. Additionally, CCDC88A is implicated in neurodevelopmental disorders and metabolic states, making it a hub protein relevant in both health and disease contexts.
