Coiled-coil domain-containing protein 9 (CCDC9) is a human protein encoded by the CCDC9 gene, which contains a coiled-coil domain, a structural motif that mediates protein-protein interactions[5]. CCDC9 is predicted and shown to participate in the exon-exon junction complex (EJC), a multiprotein assembly that binds to mRNAs near exon-exon boundaries and plays a role in several post-transcriptional regulatory processes such as mRNA export, surveillance (nonsense-mediated decay), and translation control[2][4][5]. CCDC9 is classified as an RNA-binding protein and has been identified via proteomic screens to associate with mRNA. Its best-established clinical disease association is with primary ciliary dyskinesia[5], and more generally, the CCDC protein family is implicated in diverse processes such as development, ciliogenesis, and tumorigenesis, though direct involvement of CCDC9 in cancer is not firmly established[5][6]. It is not currently recognized as a therapeutic target, receptor, enzyme, transporter, or member of other common drug-target classes.
