Coiled-coil-helix-coiled-coil-helix domain containing 2 pseudogene 2 (CHCHD2P2)

CHCHD2P2 (Coiled-coil-helix-coiled-coil-helix domain containing 2 pseudogene 2) is a human pseudogene related to the protein-coding gene CHCHD2, which encodes a mitochondrial protein involved in the regulation of apoptosis and cellular stress responses. Unlike its parental gene, CHCHD2P2 does not produce a functional protein, but emerging evidence suggests it may have regulatory functions at the RNA level, particularly as a “microRNA sponge” in post-transcriptional regulation. Changes in CHCHD2P2 expression have been observed in neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s and Huntington’s disease, suggesting a potential role in disease-relevant gene regulatory networks.
