Coiled-coil-helix-coiled-coil-helix domain containing 4 pseudogene 1 (CHCHD4P1)

CHCHD4P1 is a pseudogene homologous to the protein-coding gene coiled-coil-helix-coiled-coil-helix domain containing 4 (CHCHD4). Pseudogenes are DNA sequences similar to known genes but are generally nonfunctional due to disabling mutations (such as premature stop codons or frameshifts), or lack the regulatory elements needed to produce a functional protein. Although some pseudogenes can play regulatory roles in the cell—by producing noncoding RNAs that influence gene expression—CHCHD4P1 does not encode a protein and is not considered a therapeutic target or receptor.
