01

Overview

CHCHD4P2 (coiled-coil-helix-coiled-coil-helix domain containing 4 pseudogene 2) is a human processed pseudogene located on chromosome 2 which arose as a retrocopy of the protein-coding gene CHCHD4[7][8]. Pseudogenes such as CHCHD4P2 have DNA sequence similarity to their parental genes but typically lack the ability to produce functional proteins, due to the accumulation of disabling mutations or absence of necessary regulatory elements[4]. They are classified as non-protein-coding and generally do not serve as direct molecular targets for therapy or as biomarkers. Although some pseudogenes may give rise to regulatory RNAs, there is no published evidence that CHCHD4P2 is relevant to human biology or disease. Key clarifications: - CHCHD4P2 is not a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or pharmacological target. - It is a pseudogene, not a functional gene. - There is likely confusion with its parental gene "CHCHD4" (coiled-coil-helix-coiled-coil-helix domain containing 4), which codes for an active mitochondrial protein[2], but this entry is for the nonfunctional pseudogene CHCHD4P2.

02

Mechanism of action

Not applicable; pseudogenes do not encode functional proteins and are not drug targets.

03

Biological functions

Generally considered nonfunctional (as a pseudogene)No specific function describedMay occasionally give rise to regulatory RNAs (no evidence for CHCHD4P2)
04

Disease associations

No evidence found linking CHCHD4P2 to any disease rolePseudogenes frequently have no impact on disease
