Coiled-coil-helix-coiled-coil-helix domain containing 4 pseudogene 3 (CHCHD4P3) is a processed pseudogene, or “retrocopy,” of the protein-coding CHCHD4 gene, located on chromosome 7. Unlike functional genes, pseudogenes like CHCHD4P3 typically do not code for active proteins due to mutations or truncations in their sequence; instead, they may occur as DNA sequences that resemble protein-coding genes but are not translated. Although often considered nonfunctional, recent research has revealed that some pseudogenes may be transcribed into noncoding RNAs that can regulate gene expression by acting as microRNA decoys, sources of siRNAs, or modulators of mRNA stability for related genes. However, there is no evidence that CHCHD4P3 is a drug target, a receptor, or a protein with a defined function, nor are there any approved drugs, mechanisms of action, or specific biomarker or safety annotations associated with it in current genomic or biomedical resources.
