COL18A1 antisense RNA 1 (COL18A1-AS1) is a long noncoding RNA located on chromosome 21q22.3, acting as a regulator in cancer biology, most notably in clear cell renal cell carcinoma. It functions by modulating lipid metabolism and acts as a tumor suppressor. Its expression is suppressed in ccRCC due to DNA methylation of its promoter, and restoration of its expression inhibits tumor progression and promotes lipid consumption through the miR-1286/KLF12/UCP1 pathway. This molecule serves as both a potential prognostic biomarker and a therapeutic target in cancer, particularly where aberrant lipid metabolism plays a role
