COL18A1 antisense RNA 2 (COL18A1-AS2) is annotated as a long non-coding RNA gene near the COL18A1 locus, but there is extremely limited published scientific information about its molecular function, expression pattern, or clinical relevance[7]. Existing resources such as GeneCards and Harmonizome provide basic gene metadata but do not associate COL18A1-AS2 with any known protein products, biological pathways, disease phenotypes, or drug interactions[7]. In contrast, closely related genes such as COL18A1 protein, and COL18A1-AS1, another lncRNA in the same locus, have established functional roles and disease associations (e.g., COL18A1-AS1 is implicated in cancer and ceRNA networks)[2][10], but these cannot be inferred for COL18A1-AS2. Therefore, COL18A1-AS2 is not considered a validated therapeutic target, nor does it fit standard molecular classifications (receptor, enzyme, etc.), and its significance remains uncharacterized in current biomedical literature[7]. If detailed functional, disease, or therapeutic association information is required, the more established COL18A1 and COL18A1-AS1 genes should be considered for further structured data extraction instead[2][3][10].
