COL4A2 antisense RNA 2 (COL4A2-AS2) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed antisense to the COL4A2 gene and is classified as a non-protein-coding RNA. It has been identified as differentially expressed in subcutaneous adipose tissue of women with obesity and shows dynamic expression during adipogenic differentiation of adipose-derived stem cells. Its expression appears to be modulated by key adipogenic transcription factors (C/EBPs, PPARγ), implicating it in regulatory networks controlling adipocyte differentiation, although the precise mechanisms remain undefined and literature is limited. Currently, there is no evidence that COL4A2-AS2 itself is a direct therapeutic target, nor are drugs known to interact with it. Its main biological significance appears to be regulatory within adipogenesis and potentially obesity pathology, but its broader disease relevance and mechanisms require more research.
