Coli surface antigen 17 (CS17) is a fimbrial adhesin classified as a class 5b colonization factor found on the surface of certain enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) strains[1][6][7]. CS17 mediates bacterial attachment to the intestinal mucosa, a critical step for colonization and subsequent diarrheal disease caused by ETEC. It is almost exclusively associated with ETEC strains that produce heat-labile toxin (LT) and is structurally related to other class 5b fimbriae such as CS1, CS19, and PCFO71[7]. CS17 is a possible target for antibody-based therapies and vaccines, as anti-CS17 antibodies can prevent ETEC adhesion and protect against experimental infection[7]. CS17 is primarily of interest in the context of infectious disease rather than as a classical human therapeutic target such as a receptor or enzyme.
