Colipase-like protein 1 (CLPSL1)

Target
CLPSL1
Molecular classification
Other (The protein is described as "colipase-like," placing it in the "colipase family," but there is no evidence it functions as a cofactor, enzyme, receptor, etc.)

Overview

CLPSL1, or colipase-like protein 1, is classified as a "colipase-like" gene product, and also referred to as C6orf127 in the human genome. It is part of a gene family related by sequence to canonical colipase, which is a small (~10-12 kDa) protein crucial as a cofactor for pancreatic triglyceride lipase activity. However, CLPSL1 does not have a characterized function, no known physiological or pathological role, and is not considered a therapeutic or druggable target. Current scientific literature does not provide clarity on whether CLPSL1 is expressed as a functional protein or has any roles similar to colipase (CLPS). The confusion likely stems from the naming similarity to canonical colipase (CLPS), which is a well-characterized lipase cofactor necessary for dietary lipid digestion. However, CLPSL1/colipase-like protein 1 is not characterized to have such a function and is not currently a recognized biological or pharmacological target.

Biological functions

Other (No specific, experimentally validated biological function is known for CLPSL1/C6orf127. The canonical colipase (CLPS) acts as a cofactor for pancreatic lipase, but this cannot be assumed for CLPSL1[6].)
