Overview
Collagen is a major structural protein within the extracellular matrix (ECM) of adipose tissue. It provides mechanical strength, regulates cell-matrix interactions, modulates lipid storage, and serves as a scaffold for vascularization. Dysregulation of collagen turnover is associated with obesity, insulin resistance, and metabolic syndrome. Key collagen types include I, IV, and VI, with collagen VI being particularly enriched in adipose tissue. Therapeutic interventions targeting collagen remodeling may have anti-inflammatory effects.
