Target intelligence / Profile preview
Collagen alpha-1(I) chain is a major component of type I collagen, providing tensile strength and structural support to connective tissues, including bone, skin, tendon, and cartilage. Mutations in the COL1A1 gene, encoding this protein, can lead to various connective tissue disorders such as Osteogenesis Imperfecta and Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. Polymorphisms in this gene are also associated with osteoporosis risk.
