Overview

Integrin alpha-1/beta-1 is a transmembrane heterodimeric receptor composed of alpha-1 (ITGA1) and beta-1 (ITGB1) subunits. It acts primarily as a receptor for collagens (notably type IV collagen) and laminin, mediating cell adhesion to the extracellular matrix. Through its cytoplasmic domains, it links to the actin cytoskeleton and participates in bidirectional signal transduction, influencing cell migration, proliferation, and tissue structure. Integrin alpha-1/beta-1 is essential for normal development, tissue repair, and pathologically is implicated in cancer progression, tissue fibrosis, and certain neuromuscular disorders. It is under investigation as a therapeutic target, especially in oncology and fibrotic diseases, though no highly selective approved drugs currently target this complex.

Safety considerations
