Overview
Collagen type III alpha 1 chain is a major fibrillar collagen found predominantly in extensible connective tissues such as skin, lung, uterus, intestine, and the walls of blood vessels. It provides structural support and tensile strength to tissues requiring elasticity or flexibility. Mutations in COL3A1 are associated with vascular Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and can contribute to arterial aneurysms or organ rupture.
