Overview

Colon adenocarcinoma hypermethylated (CAHM) is a long non-coding RNA gene (also known as LINC00468 or long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 468), located on chromosome 6 near QKI[1]. It does not encode a protein. CAHM is frequently hypermethylated and transcriptionally downregulated in colorectal adenomas and carcinomas, with methylation detectable in patient plasma and thus shows strong promise as a non-invasive biomarker for colorectal cancer detection and monitoring[1][3]. CAHM also appears to function as a tumor suppressor, and its loss in some cancers promotes proliferation, invasion, and migration, while high CAHM expression is associated with improved survival in thyroid carcinoma and more favorable prognosis in breast cancer[3]. As a long intergenic non-coding RNA, CAHM likely exerts its effects via transcriptional regulation and chromatin modulation rather than serving as a drug target or receptor[2].
