Overview

Colonic mucosal lesion refers to any abnormality involving the lining of the colon, including polyps, mucosal prolapse, inflammation, or neoplastic processes. Certain types, such as colonic mucosal prolapse syndrome and prolapsing mucosal polyps, are benign but can mimic neoplastic lesions on endoscopy and histology, making accurate diagnosis essential to avoid unnecessary surgery or missed malignancy[1][3]. These lesions may be associated with chronic straining, diverticular disease, or underlying bowel disorders. Diagnosis relies on endoscopic and histopathologic features, and management is usually procedural (polypectomy and surveillance), not molecularly targeted therapy. This term is not a molecular target, receptor, transporter, or enzyme, and should not be listed as a canonical drug target for pharmacological research.
