Overview

Colonization factor antigen I (CFA/I) is a fimbrial protein complex expressed on the surface of enterotoxigenic *Escherichia coli* (ETEC). It mediates bacterial attachment to the small intestinal mucosa, facilitating colonization and subsequent toxin delivery, leading to diarrheal disease. CFA/I consists of a major stalk subunit (CfaB) and a minor tip adhesin (CfaE), with CfaE being crucial for specific binding and a promising target for vaccine development.
