Overview

The Common fibular nerve (also known as the common peroneal nerve) is one of the two major terminal branches of the sciatic nerve, originating from the posterior divisions of the L4–S2 nerve roots[1][2][4][5][7]. It winds around the neck of the fibula and splits into the superficial and deep fibular nerves. The common fibular nerve provides both motor and sensory innervation: it controls the muscles responsible for dorsiflexion and eversion of the foot and supplies sensory input from the skin of the anterolateral leg and most of the dorsum of the foot. Clinical conditions associated with the common fibular nerve include compressive neuropathy (particularly at the fibular neck), trauma-induced injury, and foot drop due to motor impairment[2][4][5].

03

Disease associations

Neuropathy (e.g., compressive or traumatic peroneal neuropathy)Foot drop (paralysis or weakness of dorsiflexion)Peripheral nerve entrapment syndromes
