Competing endogenous lncRNA 3 for miR-645 (CERNA3/CTA) is a human long non-coding RNA gene located on chromosome 8. It acts as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA), participating in post-transcriptional gene regulation by sponging microRNAs (such as miR-645), thus affecting the stability and translation of target mRNAs. Such lncRNAs are integral parts of ceRNA networks, which have been implicated in processes including cancer development, cell proliferation, immune response, and therapeutic resistance. While lncRNA-based ceRNA networks are promising therapeutic targets and biomarkers in oncology and other disease contexts, direct pharmacological targeting of CERNA3 has not been described. CERNA3 is referenced in major gene/protein databases with aliases including CTA, and it fits molecular classifications of lncRNA and ceRNA.
Drugs affecting ceRNA networks may work by disrupting miRNA-lncRNA-mRNA interactions, potentially restoring or inhibiting specific gene regulatory circuits involved in disease progression
