Complement C1q (None)

Target
None
Molecular classification
Glycoprotein, C1q-TNF superfamily
01

Overview

Complement C1q is a large hexameric glycoprotein that serves as the recognition subcomponent of the classical pathway of complement activation. It binds to a variety of ligands, including antibodies, pathogen-associated molecular patterns, and apoptotic cells, triggering the complement cascade. Beyond complement activation, C1q plays roles in immune cell modulation, apoptotic cell clearance, and tissue homeostasis. Deficiency in C1q is associated with autoimmune diseases like systemic lupus erythematosus.
