Overview

Complement C1q tumor necrosis factor-related protein 3 (C1QTNF3, also known as CTRP3, CORS26, cartonectin) is a secreted, hydrophilic protein of the C1q/TNF superfamily featuring a collagenous repeat domain and a C-terminal globular region[1]. CTRP3 is predominantly expressed in adipose tissue and cartilage, circulates as oligomers, and plays significant roles in regulating inflammation, lipid metabolism, and immune cell function[1][2][4]. It promotes lipid metabolism in the liver, ameliorates inflammation by suppressing pro-inflammatory cytokine production, and regulates both innate and adaptive immune responses, including inhibition of Th17 cell differentiation mediated via the PAQR2 (AdipoR2) receptor[4]. CTRP3 has protective effects in arthritis and myocardial infarction models, but may contribute to the development of some bone tumors[1]. Its circulating levels may serve as a biomarker for metabolic and inflammatory diseases.
