Complement C1s subcomponent

Molecular classification
Enzyme, Serine Protease
01

Overview

Complement C1s subcomponent is a serine protease that forms part of the C1 complex, which initiates the classical pathway of the complement system. Activated C1s cleaves complement proteins C4 and C2, leading to further propagation of the complement cascade. Deficiency or dysfunction can result in immunodeficiency syndromes such as systemic lupus erythematosus or hereditary angioedema, while overactivity may contribute to autoimmune pathologies.
