Complement component 1 subcomponent s (C1s) is a serine protease and a key enzymatic component of the C1 complex, which initiates the classical pathway of the complement system in innate immunity. Once activated, C1s cleaves complement components C4 and then C2, leading to the formation of the classical pathway convertase (C4b2a). Dysregulation or deficiency can contribute to autoimmune diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), infections, or inflammatory conditions.
