Complement Component 1q Subcomponent (C1q)

Target
C1q
Molecular classification
Complement component, Pattern recognition receptor, Glycoprotein
01

Overview

Complement component 1q (C1q) is the first subcomponent of the C1 complex, initiating the classical complement pathway. It's a pattern recognition molecule recognizing various targets including pathogens, apoptotic cells, and immune complexes. C1q activates the classical pathway upon binding antigen-antibody complexes, triggering a cascade of events leading to pathogen elimination and inflammation. It also plays a role in phagocytosis and tissue homeostasis.
