Overview

Complement component 3 fragment d (C3d) is a proteolytic fragment derived from complement component 3 (C3). It plays a key role in enhancing B cell responses by acting as a molecular adjuvant when covalently attached to antigens, engaging complement receptor type 2 (CR2/CD21) on B cells. This interaction lowers the threshold for B cell activation during adaptive immune responses. It is an end-product of complement activation and can be a biomarker for complement system activity.
