Complement Component Subunit Q

Molecular classification
Complement protein, Pattern recognition receptor, C1q-TNF superfamily
01

Overview

Complement C1q is a large, multifunctional glycoprotein that serves as the recognition molecule of the classical pathway in the complement system. It is responsible for identifying and binding to various targets such as pathogens, immune complexes, apoptotic cells, and altered self-components. Its unique structure enables both direct pathogen recognition and interaction with multiple receptors. In addition to its canonical role in immunity via complement activation, it participates in non-inflammatory clearance processes critical for tissue homeostasis.
