Overview
Complement factor B is a crucial protein in the alternative pathway of the complement system, an essential part of innate immunity. It circulates in blood and, upon activation, participates in forming the alternative pathway C3 convertase (C3bBb), amplifying immune responses against pathogens. Genetic variants and dysregulation of CFB are implicated in several diseases, including aHUS, ARMD, SLE, and certain cancers.
