Condensin-2 complex subunit H2 (NCAPH2) is a regulatory subunit of the condensin-2 complex, a multi-protein assembly that plays a vital role in organizing and compacting chromosomes during mitosis[1][2][3][7]. NCAPH2 is essential for proper mitotic chromosome condensation, facilitating the separation of intertwined DNA strands (catenanes) between sister chromatids and aiding chromatin bridge resolution at anaphase[1][2][7]. This function promotes chromosome architecture and genome stability. NCAPH2 also participates in developmental processes, including early neurogenesis—impacting neural stem cell mitosis and possibly determining neuron number and cortex size, as well as lineage-specific roles in T-cell development[1][2]. Dysregulation of NCAPH2 or the condensin-2 complex is linked to several disease processes including specific cancers and mitochondrial disorders[1][2]. No direct pharmacologic targeting or biomarker utility has yet been established.
