Condensin complex subunit 3 (NCAPG)

Target
NCAPG
Molecular classification
Chromosome structural protein, Condensin complex subunit, Structural maintenance of chromosomes (SMC) complex protein
01

Overview

Condensin complex subunit 3 (NCAPG) is a regulatory subunit of the condensin I complex, which is essential for chromosome condensation and stable chromosome segregation during mitosis and meiosis[3][9]. This protein cooperates with NCAPH and NCAPD2 to form condensin I, a complex that converts interphase chromatin into tightly packaged mitotic chromosomes, thus maintaining genome stability during cell division[1][4][6][7]. NCAPG plays a critical role in chromosomal organization and is indispensable for proper cell cycle progression. Overexpression of NCAPG is associated with several cancers, where it promotes proliferation, migration, and drug resistance; its expression correlates with tumor aggressiveness and worse prognosis, making it a potential therapeutic target and prognostic biomarker in oncology[2][4][5].

Mechanism of action

Disruption of NCAPG impairs chromosome condensation and segregation, inhibits tumor cell proliferation and migration, and induces cell cycle arrest; targeting NCAPG may reduce tumor cell growth
