Connective Tissue Growth Factor (CTGF)

Target
CTGF
Molecular classification
Matricellular protein, Extracellular matrix-associated heparin-binding protein
01

Overview

Connective tissue growth factor (CTGF), also known as CCN2, is a matricellular protein that plays critical roles in cell adhesion, migration, proliferation, angiogenesis, skeletal development, and tissue wound repair. It is especially important in fibrotic diseases and several forms of cancer due to its regulatory effects on extracellular matrix (ECM) production and remodeling. CTGF interacts with multiple receptors, including integrins and LRP6, and modulates signaling pathways such as TGF-beta and Wnt. It is being explored as a therapeutic target for fibroproliferative diseases.

Mechanism of action

Therapeutics targeting CTGF are under investigation for treating fibrotic diseases due to its pivotal role downstream from TGF-beta signaling cascades that drive pathological ECM accumulation.
