Overview

Connective tissue growth factor (CTGF), also known as CCN2, is a matricellular protein encoded by the CTGF gene. The messenger RNA (mRNA) for CTGF is transcribed from this gene and serves as the template for translation into the CTGF protein. CTGF mRNA plays a central role in cell proliferation, migration, adhesion, survival, differentiation, and synthesis of extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins. It is critically involved in wound healing and fibrotic diseases and contributes to angiogenesis, skeletal development, and tissue repair processes. Elevated expression of CTGF has been observed in several cancers.
