Contactin-associated protein family member 3 (CNTNAP3, also known as CASPR3) is a neuron-glia cell adhesion molecule belonging to the neurexin superfamily. It plays a role in cell recognition within the nervous system, axon myelination, neural network formation, and maintaining the stability of neuronal connections. Loss-of-function and rare missense mutations in CNTNAP3 have been linked to neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism spectrum disorder, and abnormal expression has been associated with schizophrenia. The biological significance of its various isoforms, generated via alternative splicing, is not fully understood, and no drugs are currently known to target CNTNAP3 directly[1][2][3][6].
