Conventional T cells are a major subset of T lymphocytes that play a central role in the adaptive immune response. They are distinct from regulatory T cells (Tregs) and are primarily responsible for orchestrating immune responses against pathogens, tumors, and other foreign antigens. They include CD4+ helper T cells and CD8+ cytotoxic T cells. Upon activation by their specific antigen presented via major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecules on antigen-presenting cells, conventional T cells proliferate and differentiate into effector or memory subsets.
