COP1 pseudogene 1 (COP1P1) is a pseudogene located on chromosome 18 in the human genome[2]. It shares sequence similarity with the protein-coding gene ring finger and WD repeat domain 2 (RFWD2, also known as COP1), which encodes an E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase involved in substrate ubiquitination and proteasomal degradation of target proteins[4]. However, COP1P1 does not encode a functional protein, has no known molecular function, and is not considered a therapeutic target or biomarker. Information about its involvement in disease, drug interactions, or biological pathways is lacking; references often cover the functional RFWD2/COP1 protein rather than the pseudogene[2][4]. COP1P1 is a sequence-derived (non-protein-coding) pseudogene and should not be confused with the functional COP1/RFWD2 E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase[4]. Any therapeutic targeting, disease associations, biological functions, and drug mechanisms in the literature apply to the protein-coding COP1, not COP1P1[1][3][4]. Use caution to avoid conflating information about COP1/RFWD2 (protein-coding) and COP1P1 (pseudogene).
