Overview

COP9 signalosome complex subunit 7A (COPS7A) is one of eight subunits of the COP9 signalosome, a multi-protein complex conserved in all eukaryotes. The COP9 signalosome plays a central role in the regulation of protein degradation by catalyzing deneddylation of cullin-RING ubiquitin ligases, thereby controlling their activity. COPS7A, also known as CSN7A, contains a PCI domain that mediates protein-protein interactions within the complex. This subunit is implicated in cell cycle regulation, transcriptional control, and development. The COP9 signalosome, including COPS7A, has been investigated as a potential therapeutic target in cancer and parasitic diseases due to its essential regulatory functions, although specific drug targeting of COPS7A alone is not established. Inhibition of the COP9 signalosome leads to cell cycle arrest and cell death, but therapeutic targeting is challenging due to the complex's fundamental role in cell viability[1][3][4][5][8].
