Overview

COP9 signalosome subunit 9 is one of the components of the COP9 signalosome (CSN), an evolutionarily conserved eight-subunit protein complex found in all eukaryotes. The CSN complex is a master regulator of the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway, primarily by removing the ubiquitin-like protein NEDD8 from cullin subunits of cullin-RING ligases (CRLs). This deneddylation inactivates CRLs, thereby tightly controlling protein degradation and various cell signaling pathways. COPS9 is a structural component essential for the function and integrity of the CSN complex, which is involved in processes such as cell cycle regulation, response to DNA damage, cell proliferation, and transcriptional control. While the CSN as a whole is explored as a potential therapeutic target in cancer and other diseases, there is no evidence that COPS9 alone is the direct molecular target for any approved or experimental drugs[1][2][3][4].
